This book was published in 2010. It is based partly on one-on-one interviews with 160 residents of properties owned and operated by the BC Seniors Living Association, now part of the BC Care Providers Association. Although it’s a little dated it still provides a wealth of useful information.
Here’s an excerpt from the back cover.
You Will Learn:
- Who moves, who doesn’t and why
- What consumers want
- What consumers can afford
- How to determine the size of your market
- How a good market study can save you millions
- How to fill your project fast—and keep it full
- How to ensure that your residents are very satisfied
My One Regret
The one element of the book that makes me cringe a bit is the cover. One of the two people is holding a cane, a stereotype I would not consider if publishing the book in 2025. It’s not that older people don’t need and use canes—obviously many do. But 90% don’t, at least according to AI. One the other hand I wouldn’t illustrate a 2025 edition of the book with a downhill skier, notwithstanding the fact that the Seniors Ski Team in Whistler has 350 members aged 55+ – knowledge I gained while working on a market study there.
